Moving Fundamentally
PHE Canada, whose primary concern is to influence the healthy development of children and youth by advocating for quality, school-based physical and health education, has developed a print manual and instruction tool designed for teachers, instructors and coaches of children ages 4 to 9 years who are in the Active Start and FUNdamentals stages of the LTAD Model.
The user friendly guide supports teachers, coaches, recreation practitioners to instruct fundamental (basic) movement skills. It includes important information on:
the 12 fundamental skills
descriptions of mature movement patterns
images, teaching tips, cue words and phrases, and
coordinating activities that allow the child to practise these skills in different fun ways
The online tool shows each movement in video as well as shots of each movement's key positions. Together the printed guide and online tools create a multisensory instruction tool for the instructor and child. More information.
